śaśabindor duhitari
bindumatyām adhān nṛpaḥ
purukutsam ambarīṣaṁ
mucukundaṁ ca yoginam
teṣāṁ svasāraḥ pañcāśat
saubhariṁ vavrire patim


SYNONYMS

śaśabindoḥ — of a king known as Śaśabindu; duhitari — unto the daughter; bindumatyām — whose name was Bindumatī; adhāt — begot; nṛpaḥ — the King (Māndhātā); purukutsam — Purukutsa; ambarīṣamAmbarīṣa; mucukundam — Mucukunda; ca — and; yoginam — a highly elevated mystic; teṣām — of them; svasāraḥ — the sisters; pañcāśat — fifty; saubharim — unto the great sage Saubhari; vavrire — accepted; patim — as husband.


TRANSLATION

Māndhātā begot three sons in the womb of Bindumatī, the daughter of Śaśabindu. These sons were Purukutsa, Ambarīṣa, and Mucukunda, a great mystic yogī. These three brothers had fifty sisters, who all accepted the great sage Saubhari as their husband.
