Dear Subbaraiduji,

I have again been instructed by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada to reply your letter dated 16th June, 1977.

I am sorry that you felt the previous letter to be a routine reply and that you were not pleased with its contents. We do not in any way want to discourage you from propagating your idea regarding dating by Krsna Era. However our principle is “mahajana yena katha sa pantha.” We follow the footsteps of our previous acaryas. Our previous acaryas have dated by Caitanya Era, that is from the appearance of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is understood to be Krsna Himself. Therefore whether you date from Krsna Era or from Caitanya Era, it is the same. We shall be pleased to date from Caitanya Era, as this has been done by our predecessor Spiritual Masters. We do not want to depart from what they have done. However you are free to do as you like. This is our final opinion.
