770619 - Letter to Mahamsa from Tamal Krsna

June 19th, 1977

From: Tamal Krishna

My dear Mahamsa Maharaj,

Please accept my humble obeisances at your feet. I have been instructed by His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada to reply your letter dated 12th June, 1977. This letter is being delivered by Visvambhar Dayal. I think you know that Visvambhar is a most devoted servant of Srila Prabhupada, and he is the general manager of the whole Vrndavana project and construction. Srila Prabhupada has for a long time wanted Visvambhar to go to Hyderbad, since he is very expert in farming, to give you some direction and advice. So he has gratefully consented, and now while he is there for the short stay, please take all help and advice from him. His visit is fully authorized by Srila Prabhupada, so learn everything you can from him.

When I spoke to His Divine Grace about your request for Rs. 50,000/- he was not at all pleased and said, “I will not give even 50 paisa more. No more money will be given.” Srila Prabhupada is very disturbed that you are always asking for more money, but never in the past years have you ever paid him any money back. Other projects have repaid or begun to repay loans, but you have never done this at all. His Divine Grace now will no longer give you any money so whatever you do you will have to do on your own strength.

As Srila Prabhupada mentioned to you in a previous letter, the Rs. 75,000/- transferred in April was given as a loan. I do not know if the previous transfer of Rs. 46,500/- was also meant as a loan, but in any case I would suggest that you take it as such and make a plan for repaying both amounts, because at this point His Divine Grace is not pleased at these one-way transactions. Enclosed please find a loan agreement which shows a total loan of Rs. 1,21,500/-. You do not have to start paying off till the end of three years or in other words the first payment would be due January 1st, 1980.At that time you would pay off the first amount of Rs. 46,000/- plus interest at 10 percent for three years. The second amount of Rs. 75,000 I have divided in half so it will be easier for you to pay it off over a two year period. The first amount of Rs. 37,500/- will be due on January 1st, 1981 plus 10 percent interest for four years. The second Rs. 37,500/- will be due January 1st, 1982 plus 10 percent interest for five years. If you manage you farm very carefully, there is no reason why you cannot make sufficient profit to pay off these loans. I think it is essential that you determine yourselves to pay Srila Prabhupada back this money as He is very dissatisfied with your policy of always asking for money without taking the responsibility for paying it back. The enclosed loan agreement should be signed by all the necessary parties and then returned to me here at Vrndavana for Srila Prabhupada’s signature after which I will forward you a copy.

Srila Prabhupada wants to know whether you have the registered document now in hand?

Another question is that you say there is only Rs. 75,000/- balance in Srila Prabhupada’s account at Punjab National Bank. According to our accounts, there should be a larger balance than this. Kindly have the bank send an up-to-date statement of accounts so that we can see why this discrepancy is there. Hoping this meets you well.

Your servant,

Tamal Krsna Gosvami

P.S. By the intercession of [Vishnu?] [Vishvambhar?], Srila Prabhupada has consented to loan a further Rs 25,000/-. This can be set up as a separate loan agreement payable after 6 years. I will send a separate agreement covering it later.
