June 28th, 1977

From: Tamal Krishna

My dear Brahmananda Maharaj,

Please accept my humble obeisances. I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 22nd June, 1977 sent from Bombay.

Regarding Jalakara Prabhu, I had already written him a letter in reply to his letter to His Divine Grace. I sent copies both to Dar Es Salan as well as to Nairobi. Actually the statement made by me regarding his inability to lead another devotee was based on Gauri Das’s statement that Jalakara had told him, “Don’t worry. You won’t have to chant your rounds and you can get up late in the morning, and eat very nicely at the life member’s homes.” I pointed out to Jalakara Prabhu that Gauri Das was a weak devotee and that I doubted that he would have been able to remain in Africa with any devotee. In addition I tried to encourage him in his traveling and preaching work, telling him how important this was for the whole movement and how many devotees all over the world were aware of his activities and very much appreciative including myself, and especially His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada. I may suggest that although you are so short-handed, if indeed the man is so valuable to you, then I think somehow you should manage to choose one of the devotees there to travel with him. I have heard that Janakinath Prabhu might be better traveling and preaching to avoid marriage, so perhaps he would be a good choice. There is no doubt that he will be very successful in being a good assistant to Jalakara. He is just the kind of devotee that Jalakara could use, and who Jalakara would respect, because he is quite efficient and responsible as well as enthusiastic, and his disposition is good enough to get along together.

Srila Prabhupada’s health continues to improve slightly as He goes on with His translation of Tenth Canto, 8th Chapter. Hoping this meets you well.

Your servant,

Tamal Krsna Gosvami
Secretary to Srila Prabhupada
His Holiness Brahmananda Swami
