His Divine Grace
A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

770517R1-VRNDAVAN - May 17, 1977 - 28:05 Minutes

Prabhupāda: Now you can discuss. Thik hai! (All right!)

Prabhupāda: . . . (indistinct Hindi)

Indian man (1): Ladki ka sharir poora ho gaya vo ladki, jo Manisha jo thee, Cancer jisake paas . . . paraso shareer poora ho gaya . . . (indistinct) kaal, paraso . . . (indistinct) (The girl's body is complete, that girl who was Manisha, had cancer . . . (indistinct) . . . the day before yesterday she left the body. Tomorrow . . . (indistinct) . . . the day after tomorrow . . . (indistinct) . . .)

Prabhupāda: Cancer hone se koi jee nahin sakta. Humara bhi ek chela tha, Dayānanda. Khoob Hari Naam karta rahta tha. Shareer chhod dee. Bada glorious death tha. Vahee sab rath yatra ka intijam karta tha. (No one can live with cancer. Dayānanda was also one of my disciples. He was always chanting the name of Hari a lot, and left the body. It was a glorious death. He used to arrange all the Ratha-yātrās.) Bachha hai. (This is a child.) What was his age?

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Jayānanda was about thirty-eight or forty.

Prabhupāda: Pahle . . . (indistinct) uska accident hua tha . . . (indistinct) Hamko hamaara drive karta tha aur Hare Krsna Hare Krsna jap karta. Wohi pahle 5000 doller humko diya . . . (indistinct) (Earlier he had an accident . . . (indistinct) . . . he used to drive ours and chant Hare Kṛṣṇa Hare Kṛṣṇa maha mantra. He was the first one who gave us 5,000 dollars . . .) I was very anxious to print my books. So he was the first one to come forward, a five hundred dollar cheque . . . (indistinct). San Francisco ka center wohi chalata tha. Back to Godhead. Jo kam ushe suput kiya tha utna usne aache tarah se kiya . . . (indistinct) Isme mala bhi hai . . . (indistinct). (The center of San Francisco was run by him. Back to Godhead. The work that was assigned to him, he did in a good way . . . (indistinct) . . .) Isme mala bhi hai . . . (indistinct) . . . (It also has beads . . . (indistinct) . . .)

Indian man (1): Aapko bhookh bilkul nahi lagti? Wahan jaane se koi labh nahin hua, Rshikesh jaane se? (You don't feel hungry at all? There is no benefit from going to Rishikesh?)

Prabhupāda: (Sanskrit Verse)

Indian man (1): (laughs)

Prabhupāda: Isliye to idhar yahan aaya hai jo khana sona band ho gaya. Tab to marna hi tha iske bina. (That's why I came here, because eating and sleeping have almost stopped. At that point, it was a dying situation without it.)

Prabhupāda: Aankh mein bhi dhuan lagata hai. (There is a smoky haze in the eyes.)

Prabhupāda: Yah to hoga hee, durbal ho gaya hai. Theek hai, ab to ghar mein hain abhee. Baaki . . . doctor log ko rule hain ye, keval kirtan kijiye, yadi hosh nahin rahega aur bol nahin sakenge tab kirtan kijiye aur kuchh nahin. Doctor bulaana injection dena . . . (indistinct) yahee sab hai. Yah un sab ko bol diya hoon. Jab tak bache hai, kya karen! (Yes, it is bound to happen. I became weak. It's okay, I am at home now. Rest . . . (indistinct) . . . this is the rule of the Doctor, do kirtana only. If there is no consciousness and won't speak, then do kirtana and nothing else. Call a doctor and give an injection . . . (indistinct) . . . that's all. I have told this to all of them. What to do while there is still life left?)

Prabhupāda: (Sanskrit verse)

Prabhupāda: Bhagavan ki jai se ikchha vo hone chahiye. (It should be as desired by God.) Lālasya sneh . . . (indistinct)

Prabhupāda: Achchha davaee, doctor hone se aadamee jee jaayega? is prakar, jitane sab vidhi hai duniya main, duniya to struggle hain. Ek mushkil hai aur doosra usaka . . . (indistinct) . . . scientific. To life mein jitne bhi vidhi hai vo sab kaam mein aage nahin agar aap usako kar chuke hain. Jo Bhagavaan ka ek shuddh . . . (indistinct) hai . . . (indistinct) doctor log khud se experiment karta hai. kuchh jaanata unata nahin . . . (indistinct) . . . (Will a man live by having good medicine and a good doctor? In this way, all the methods in the world are of no use because the world is meant for struggle. One is difficult and the other is . . . (indistinct) . . . scientific. So, whatever methods are in life, it will not work if you have done it. Which is a pure act of God . . . (indistinct) . . . the doctor does experiments on himself without knowing actual knowledge . . . (indistinct) . . .) What is this cloth is hanging?

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: It says, "Welcome, Śrīla Prabhupāda."

Prabhupāda: Oh. Where is Gopāla?

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: He went back to Bombay.

Prabhupāda: Kab gaya? Tumko maloom nahin? (When did he go? You don't know?)

Indian man (1): Iha to . . . (indistinct) . . . (Here . . . (indistinct) . . .)

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: He was in Delhi the day before yesterday.

Indian man (1): He came here only for one day.

Prabhupāda: Hmm?

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: He was in Delhi only about two days ago. He'll be coming back here, he said, in about one week from now—one week to ten days.

Prabhupāda: (aside) You can keep here. When Mr. Bose has come?

Akṣayānanda: Mr. Ghosh?

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Bose.

Akṣayānanda: Oh. Just three days ago.

Prabhupāda: How long he'll stay?

Akṣayānanda: He wants to stay.

Prabhupāda: He wants, but I don't think he wants. (laughs) It is known to me.

Mr. Bose: No, I'll stay. I promised them.

Prabhupāda: You promised them? (laughter)

Mr. Bose: By your blessings.

Prabhupāda: This time little advanced he has become there, Bose . . . shaven-headed. Pichtan aar ki ache? (Is there anything there that wants to pull you back?)

Mr. Bose: Agge? (What?)

Prabhupāda: Pichtan aar ki ache? (Any worldly connection that wants to pull you back?)

Mr. Bose: Kichu nei. (No, nothing.)

Prabhupāda: Hmm. His father was sannyāsī. He's the first sannyāsī of Gauḍīya Maṭha.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: What, Śrīla Prabhupāda?

Prabhupāda: His father was the first sannyāsī of Gauḍīya Maṭha, my Godbrother, Bhakti-pradīpa-tīrtha. He was very kindly. He liked me very much. Koto boyesh holo? (What's your age now?)

Mr. Bose: Fifty Eight.

Prabhupāda: Ha?

Mr. Bose: Atanno bochor. (Fifty Eight.)

Prabhupāda: Kobe asbe? . . . (indistinct) . . . Bodobhyas sob . . . cigret thigret khaoai jao? Sab charayega isko. Aar besi cigret thigret? (When will you join? . . . (indistinct) . . . all the bad habits . . . do you associate with smokers? Need to give up everything. Do you smoke cigarettes?)

Mr. Bose: Nesha amar nei. (I do not smoke.)

Indian man (2): Sob? (Any other addiction?)

Mr. Bose: Kichui nai. (No addiction.)

Prabhupāda: He has come. Just try to train him.

Mr. Bose: Somosto tyag korechi. Mane ogulo nea to aar asa jai na. Bhetor theke jokhon pressure . . . (I have given up everything. I can't come with all those habits. When there is a pressure felt internally . . .)

Prabhupāda: Pressure must be there. You are a son of a very big man. The father's quality must be there.

Mr. Bose: Apnara o achen. (laughter) Apnara . . . ei je amake ekhon anlen, e apni chara aar keu parten na. Eita ami . . .(You all are here. (laughter) You all . . . that you have brought me now, had it not been you, no one could have brought me here. This I . . .) I . . . Hardly I endorse. Without your grace, a man like me, never. I realize your now . . .

Prabhupāda: Tumi thako bhalo kore. (You stay here nicely.)

Mr. Bose: Ha. (Yes.)

Prabhupāda: Eisob management koro. (Do the management job.)

Mr. Bose: He's so kind to me.

Akṣayānanda: Everything Prabhupāda does is . . . (indistinct)

Prabhupāda: He is ideal sannyāsī. I think he's younger than you.

Mr. Bose: Yes. As I am engrossed in this way. It is only through his grace I got extricated. It was impossible. I have got all the abilities. Still, in the world has trapped me in such a way that several times I promised to him; I could not extricate myself. But this time, I really strict and I last only . . . that strictness I found because I know it now.

Prabhupāda: Even though government service . . .

Mr. Bose: I worked in a good post. And my father, most dearest Godbrother. He has got a very, one nickname . . . (indistinct) . . . he's a great poet.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Kavi. (Poet.)

Mr. Bose: Kavi. In the mission only he used to call him, no other sannyāsīs and nobody, even not Prabhupāda, . . . (indistinct) . . . but he realized it. Always used to address him. How much love he saw, Prabhupāda. Yesterday I spoke, yesterday night. The greatest living export that has been brought down by God, it is what Bhaktivedanta Prabhupāda has . . . Eni hochhen (He is) living export, Indian culture, je jinishta apni prothom okhane je dilen, (The thing that you have distributed first, there,) in the world.

pṛthivīte āche yata nagarādi grāma
sarvatra pracāra haibe mora nāma
(CB Antya-khaṇḍa 4.126)

He is the literary living translator and implemented and carried out by single person. And that single person is so much infested and imbued with such a divine power. None of us can do. It is impossible. Practically it is impossible. The Prabhupāda's unfulfillment mission has been fulfilled by this Vedānta Prabhupāda. Śrīmad-Bhāgavata, all quotes, quotations, praising this all types of the power, all pervading the hari-nāma. And it is all pervedes by him. So there is a medium of literature, medium of professor, medium of the cinema, but still, medium of the personality who in person . . . (indistinct) . . . presented it himself. And you, all people, that attracted by his transcendental personality. What with these social religions; there are many authoritarian leaders have gone there, and social-religious reformer, through process of yoga, jñāna, karma, etcetera, etcetera. But the one person imbued and empowered fully, transcendental form, by Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu Himself, and by his guru, Prabhupāda. I realized it. That this number nobody can empower. And as a result our this Vaiṣṇava culture bestowing the supreme as Kṛṣṇa pronounced as the Master to worship Him . . . (indistinct) . . . that he fulfilled the re-established the divine aryan culture. The nāma . . . if he fulfills the propagation of this cult of the nāma, and then more form, that he is more love, means that he is the more loved, kīrtana and more, saṅkīrtana. These three things themselves teach us, though in one word—kṛṣṇa-nāma-saṅkīrtana is one, one faith. But still it has the three aspects—Kṛṣṇa, then nāma and then kīrtana, then saṅkīrtana. So he, in his life, he exhibited, he translated, and in the world he has given this Kṛṣṇa. He has given this Kṛṣṇa. He has given the nāma. He has given the kīrtana, he has given saṅkīrtana which we have seen this morning. The saṅkīrtana . . . (indistinct) . . . wonderful. In the Caitanya-caritāmṛta . . .

Prabhupāda: So you have got assets. You have got parentage. Everything you have got. Now do something. You have come.

Mr. Bose: Yes. I will do. It is a good association.

Prabhupāda: Satāṁ prasaṅgān mama vīrya-saṁvidaḥ (SB 3.25.25). (break) But they have dedicated their life to Kṛṣṇa. That is their qualification. Bhajate mām ananya-bhāk sādhur eva sa man . . . (BG 9.30). So their association is sādhu-saṅga .

Mr. Bose: Real association place. (break)

Viśvambhara: Loo nahi chali hai, Prabhupāda abhee tak, mausam bahut thanda hai. Raatri main bahut thanda rahata hai. (Heatwave is not blowing Prabhupāda, the weather is not very hot. It is respectively very cold at night.)

Prabhupāda: Kal Delhi me dekha bahut thanda hai. (Yesterday it was very cold in Delhi.)

Viśvambhara: Jee haan. (Yes.)

Prabhupāda: Keshi Ghat ka kharbooja hai? (Is it the muskmelon of Keshi Ghat?)

Viśvambhara: Haan Keshi Ghat ka kharbooja hai par meetha nahin hai. (Yes, it is the muskmelon of Keshi Ghat but not sweet.)

Prabhupāda: Paanee gir jaane do. (Let it rain.)

Viśvambhara: Jee haan. (Yes.)

Prabhupāda: Is ko do thoda thoda phal khaane. (Give him some fruits to eat.)

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Is there any good cow's milk available?

Viśvambhara: Oh, so much brāhmaṇa has brought so many cows.

Prabhupāda: He has now kept some.

Viśvambhara: Many cows we have got now. One Dhanañjaya bought, she is giving thirteen kilos, fourteen kilos.

Indian man (3): Milk?

Viśvambhara: Yes. I bought it from Govardhan, from Dhanañjaya. She is giving thirteen, fourteen kilos.

Prabhupāda: Ekhane thako, kono obhab nei. (Just stay here, there is no scarcity of anything.)

Mr. Bose: Achha. (Well.)

Prabhupāda: Khao dao bhalo kore aar ei sob manage koro. (Be here, eat sumptuously and manage all these things.)

Indian man (2): Prabhupāda, ami uthlam. (Prabhupāda, I will leave now.)

Prabhupāda: Ha? (What?)

Indian man (2): Ami jai. (I am leaving.)

Prabhupāda: Abhee nahin. (Not now.) Pet mein kuchh jaata hee nahin. (Nothing goes in the stomach.)

Prabhupāda: Amader kono obhab nei. Ektu manage bhalo korle, ekhane khub . . . (We don't have any scarcity on anything. If things can be managed well, then here it will be very . . .)

Mr. Bose: Ami nebo , management er bhar nebo. Ja bolben. Apnake kotha deachi. (I will accept it. Will take the responsibility of the management. Whatever you tell me to do. I have given commitment to you.)

(indistinct comments)

Prabhupāda: . . . (indistinct) . . . kheye deya Hari bhajan kare. Amra kaj kormo korte bolchi na. (. . . (indistinct) . . . stay here, eat nicely and do Hari bhajana. We are not telling you to do physical labor.)

Mr. Bose: Na. Apnar ashirbad tai ami sokoler age cheye nichhi. Bakider moto jeno kore jete pari. (That I know. I just want to receive your blessings first. May I perform like all others here.)

Prabhupāda: Jaigao bhalo ache. Jodi keu Hari bhajan korte chai, besh nischinto mone, bhalo kore korte pare. Sob standard er lok. Aar eder cheye standard karur bhalo hobe na. (We have got a good place here. If someone wants to do Hari bhajana, then with a very peaceful mind he can do it very nicely here. All quality people. No one can maintain better standards than these people.)

Mr. Bose: Prithibite nei. (Nowhere in the world.)

Prabhupāda: Amader joto moth ache, amader standard er cheye karur bhalo nei. (All the mathas that we have, no one has better standards than us.)

Mr. Bose: Sudhu standard noi. Apnar ta je onno, transcendental standard, in each and every thing. Eta ekta alada jinish. Ei jinish ta. Eta onner songe kono tulona, kono comparison kora jai na. Tulona kora ta thik na. Apni jedin listi dilen, ete koto lok boste pare . . . (indistinct) . . . (Not only standard. Your's are different, it's a transcendental standard, in each and every thing. That is a different thing altogether. This thing. It can't be compared with anyone else. It's not appropriate to compare. As per the list that you provided, so many people can sit together . . . (indistinct) . . .)

Prabhupāda: Amader judgment dekhecho? (Have you seen our judgment?)

Mr. Bose: Ha? (What?)

Prabhupāda: Judgment, Supreme Court, America.

Mr. Bose: Oi goto bar deachilen to? (That one which you showed last time?)

Prabhupāda: Na na. (No no.)

Mr. Bose: Tahle? Latest kichu ache? (Then? Is there anything latest?)

Prabhupāda: Vo likh kar nahin diya? (Didn't give it in writing?)

Indian man (2): Kya? (What was it?) . . . (indistinct Hindi)

(indistinct comments)

Prabhupāda: And what about that Hindi translation?

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: That judge is making?

Prabhupāda: Huh?

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: That has to be sent. We don't have it yet.

Prabhupāda: Ek judge bhi mil gaya . . . (indistinct) (We met with a judge) . . . (indistinct)

Indian Man: Hmm? (Yes?)

Prabhupāda: O Rshikesh mein. (In Rishikesh.)

Indian Man: Ji haan. (Yes.)

Prabhupāda: Ek judge saahab bhee mil gaya. To usako translation karane ko diya hai. (We met with a judge over there. I gave him to do translation.)

Indian Man: Kaahe ko Prabhupāda? (Why Prabhupāda?)

Prabhupāda: Vo jo America mein judgment diya hai, vo dikha nahi? (The judgment that was given in America, haven't you seen it?)

Indian Man: Vo waha se, America se judgment aaya hai? (Judgment has come from America?)

Prabhupāda: Haa. Bahut bari judgment. Ye bhi ek Bhagwan ki kripa hai. Humne to bola tha ki mukaddoma hum chalayega. Bahut rupiya kharch hua, par sab barbad ho jayenge. Hum inko bolenge ki humara jo statement hai kitab me, usko paro fir judgment do. (Yes. It was a big judgment. This is also a mercy of God. I told them that I will fight this case. Had to spend a lot of money on it, else everything would have just finished. I told them that you first read our statements given in our books and then give your judgment.) (break)

Prabhupāda: "It is folly to be wise where ignorance is bliss." So restaurant is going on in the new building? No.

Akṣayānanda: Evening.

Prabhupāda: Eh?

Akṣayānanda: Upto ten o'clock.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: In the new building? In this building.

Prabhupāda: Eh?

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: It's in the guesthouse. There weren't many people there, though.

Prabhupāda: Hm?

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Only about five people at lunch.

Akṣayānanda: Today.

Prabhupāda: People are not coming.

Akṣayānanda: It's up and down, Prabhupāda. Sometimes it's full. One day it's full; one day it's nothing. It's not steady. This is the problem. We always invite them. We go to the people personally and invite them, and they come.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: I think the . . .

Prabhupāda: Ha?

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Waiters, waiters could have been better. They're not very . . . so it . . .

Akṣayānanda: I can snap them up.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: They should be a little bit more businesslike. (background discussion) (break)

Prabhupāda: . . . see Rādhā-Dāmodara temple.

Akṣayānanda: Hmm . . . that would be nice.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Maybe tomorrow, if this Jayaśacīnandana goes the first time, I can go with him. I know Gauracānda a little bit, so I can, you know, just, as your secretary, send your greetings to him. He'll appreciate that.

Akṣayānanda: He'll appreciate.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: I think what I'll do is I'll go at the time when I know they're supposed to be making that offering. That way, I'll see if it's being done. Little spy work. What time is that offering made? Noontime?

Devotee: Yeah, noon.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Twelve? (pause)

Prabhupāda: Then have them bring little prasādam from there.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Okay. From the plate that's offered to you?

Prabhupāda: Yes, from . . . (break) (end)
