8 April, 1977

From: Tamal Krishna

My dear Bhishambharji,

Please accept my humble obeisances. I beg to thank you for your letter dated 2nd April, 1977 and I have noted the contents. Srila Prabhupada has received the loan agreement duly signed by all of you Vrindaban managers and His Divine Grace has also signed and I have returned a copy to you. It is very encouraging to know that everyone is eager to take responsibility to repay the loan.

I am also in due receipt of the enclosed bill number seven for the construction. When we meet in Mayapur you informed me that the owed Rupees one lac seventy-nine thousand for work completed up to 7th March, 1977 beyond the Rupees nine lacs ninety-five thousand we already paid to that date. Therefore Srila Prabhupada issued letters to Syndicate Bank and Punjab National Bank for total amount Rupees one lac fifty thousand. This running bill number 7 for Rupees one lac twenty-three thousand for work up and through 31st March, 1977 – is that for work done since 7th March, 1977? Since I am not in possession of previous running bills, how much of this amount of Rupees one lac twenty-three thousand is for work done since 7-3-77? In any case we have worked out in Mayapur that by 10th April Srila Prabhupada will issue a further amount of Rupees one lac twenty-five thousand for on going construction costs. Enclosed please find a copy of a letter to Punjab National Bank directing them to transfer Rupees one lac sixty-five thousand to the account in the name of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Gurukula Construction) account number 4. The additional Rupees forty thousand can be applied towards the first running bill for laying the sewer line. In the future please send the original bills direct to Mr. Krishna Murti and send Srila Prabhupada a copy of the bills so that He may keep these in His files.

Regarding the Bhaktivedanta Swami gates yes, that was the point. That the gates should only be named in Srila Prabhupada’s name least anyone else claim the responsibility of the construction. Srila Prabhupada was very glad to hear that they have been sanctioned and wishes the construction to immediately begin. You are asking for funds to begin the construction but you should first submit an estimate for the gates construction. In any case now you are receiving regular funds from Srila Prabhupada. So from the money you are receiving take some of it and immediately begin the construction of the gates. The money which you borrow for the Gurukula construction will be repaid later on when you send the bills showing that the work has been done.

Srila Prabhupada said that we cannot deposit Rs. fifteen lacs as Syndicate Bank is proposing. His Divine Grace said it seems better to wait for Allahabad Bank. He is willing to deposit Rs. five lacs. He wanted one rupee per square foot. That must be paid. We are spending Rs. eighteen lacs so we must get this money back. You can suggest that the verandah can be given freely but the other space, the 1500 square foot area must be rupees one per square foot. From that area of the bank we must raise at least Rs. fifteen hundred otherwise there will be loss.

I hope this finds in the very best health and Krishna Consciousness.

Your servant,

Tamal Krishna Goswami
