(conversation between Śrīla Prabhupāda and his Godbrothers. regarding preaching in the Middle East. mostly indistinct)

Prabhupāda: In the Middle East, we’ve organised programs . . .

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: Where?

Prabhupāda: In the Middle East . . . Arabia . . . (indistinct)

Prabhupāda: (to devotee) What’s the name of that Professor? (indistinct)

Prabhupāda Disciple (1): Doctor N . . . (indistinct)

He’s the most eminent scholar in Iran. He’s received our books very well. What has he said about our books?

Prabhupāda Disciple (2): That . . . (indistinct)

Prabhupāda Disciple (2): . . . represents the real Vedic tradition.

Prabhupāda: He’s Muslim but appreciates mantra-vidya. (indistinct conversation)

Prabhupāda: They will accept everywhere but slowly. They will accept slowly. (indistinct conversation)

Prabhupāda: Even in Japan. The problem is with the language. The Japanese boys are very good.

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: They do not understand English?

Prabhupāda: They know but very little. They are philosophical.

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: I heard in Germany . . .

Prabhupāda: Yes, in Germany it is big . . .

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: West Germany?

Prabhupāda Disciple (2): Yes.

Prabhupāda: In Poland, Slovakia, Rome.

Prabhupāda's disciple: Even Hungary.

Prabhupāda: Hungary . . .

Prabhupāda's disciple: Hong Kong.

(indistinct)

Prabhupāda: In Germany we have published Caitanya Caritāmṛta.

Prabhupāda: Have you read a page or two?

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: Yes. (laughter) . . . (indistinct) . . . is the fourth chapter completed?

Prabhupāda: All completed.

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: . . . (indistinct)

Prabhupāda: Seventeen volumes.

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: (recites an inaudible verse) I want to read that part.

Prabhupāda: It is there . . .

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: That part I want to read.

Prabhupāda: All complete. Seventeen volumes.

Prabhupāda Disciple (2): Beautiful colour illustrations.Wonderful paintings inside.

Prabhupāda: Hmm . . . seventeen volumes. In all universities, colleges, professors . . . have given standing orders.

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: You may like to give one set to Prabhupāda's library.

Prabhupāda: Sure.

Prabhupāda: . . . (indistinct) (laughter)

Prabhupāda and Devotees: (japa) . . . (indistinct)

Prabhupāda: (inaudible) In New Vṛndāvana, we manufacture a lot of ghee.

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: Ghee?

Prabhupāda: Hmm. Everyday, there is one thousand pounds of ghee. I have started a farm there.

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: Really?

Prabhupāda: There is one thousand pounds of milk . . . (indistinct) . . . they give fifty-sixty pounds of milk, each.

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: New Vṛndāvana . . . how much land is there . . . land . . . how much land?

Prabhupāda: Hmm?

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: Land?

Prabhupāda: One thousand acres.

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: One thousand acres?

Prabhupāda: Yes.

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: Where? In New Vṛndāvana?

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: (chuckling) In New Vṛndāvana.

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: One thousand acres?

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: Yes.

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: (chuckling) Was it just lying there?

Prabhupāda: There is plenty of land in America.

(indistinct background conversation)

Prabhupāda: Proper utilisation is not happening. This is what I keep saying, that there’s so much available land on this planet. If there can be proper utilisation of this land, then ten times the numbers of the existing population of this planet can be fed. (laughter)

Prabhupāda: They say there is over population. This is nonsense.

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: India has too much . . .

Prabhupāda: Nowhere has that (overpopulation) happened. That is a foolish person's idea. (laughter)

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: Land utilisation has not happened.

Prabhupāda: We understand . . . "eko bahūnāṁ yo vidadhāti kāmān" (Kaṭha Upaniṣad 2.2.13). So what even if there is overpopulation, can He not feed everyone? (laughter)

Prabhupāda: All these theories are due to a 'God-less' civilisation. (laughter)

Prabhupāda: When Mahārāja Pṛthu asked, "Why are you not giving them?" Then what did Mother Earth reply? She said, "I will not give the demons. I will not give them."

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: Yes. (laughter)

Prabhupāda: When human beings become demonic, they are going to starve to death. 'God-less'. Otherwise, is there any dearth in Bhagavān's (the Supreme Person) kingdom? It is said, "eko bahūnāṁ yo vidadhāti kāmān" (Kaṭha Upaniṣad 2.2.13). He is feeding everyone . . . overpopulation . . . the birds and animals, do they care about overpopulation? (laughter) They eat as must as they need. They take care of one dozen off-spring. Does overpopulation affect them? This is foolish. The most important thing is stated in the Bhāgavatam (śloka) but they want to starve and kill them.

(laughter)

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: This is most important. If everyone is 'God-centric', then there is no problem.

Prabhupāda: Yes, then there is no problem. As we have observed, one year there is an abundance of mangoes, another year there were hardly any. This is in nature's hands. God can give in abundance, even when there is an abundance of population. If someone chooses to be foolish and demonic (inaudible). Yoga-kṣemaṁ vahāmy aham (Bhagavad-gītā 10.10) There is no lack in Bhagavān's kingdom.

Prabhupāda's Godbrother: The thing is . . . (indistinct) (laughter)

Prabhupāda: Prabhupāda has said that the only thing lacking is Hari-bhakti. Lack of Hari-kathā.

(indistinct conversation)

Prabhupāda: There's a famine of Hari-kathā (Kṛṣṇa's words). I have seen, they discard wheat into the ocean. They opine that if there is overproduction of food-grain, then the prices will go down if there is an abundance. Because when there is over-supply, prices will reduce, so they throw the food-grains. (end)
