Bhakti-caru: . . . (indistinct) . . . (audio disturbance) . . . Mahina bhar to khate hain angoor ka ras, kabhi to aisa nahi hua pehle. (He has been having grape juice since last 1 month, but this never happened before.) there's something else to be said . . . about the grapes. He drinks grape juice all over a month but this has not happened before, the diarrhea.

Kavirāja's Assistant: Angoor ka ras to rakta vardhak hai, acha hai. (Grape juice is blood purifying. It's good.)

Bhakti-caru: Nahi ap bol rahe the angoor ka ras khane se tatti . . . (But you're saying that by drinking grape juice, he's got diarrhea . . .)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Continually ek mahine khate the? (Yes, it is possible with fruit. How long has he been taking it continually?)

Bhakti-caru: Ek mahine se jyada. (More than one month.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Then, possibly it's not because of that. There must be some the effect of . . . (indistinct)

Bhakti-caru: Accha me dikhata hun apko prescription. (Okay, let me show you the prescription.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Then, that may be the cause. Also, the milk . . . there's another thought . . . a goat.

Bhakti-caru: Yes.

Satadhanya: Finished with the urinal, Śrīla Prabhupāda?

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Hmm. Oke bolo roj ekbar dekhe jete. (Tell him to come and see me once everyday.)

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Bhakti-caru, Prabhupāda is talking to you.

Bhakti-caru: Yes, Śrīla Prabhupāda?

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Bolchi je ekbar kore ese dekhe jete, roj. (I'm saying that . . . he must come and see me once . . . everyday.)

Bhakti-caru: All right, all right. Śrīla Prabhupādajī ne bolte hain ki aap . . . jab apko fursat ho har roz ek dafa ake unko dekh ke jaiye. (Śrīla Prabhupāda is saying that you . . . when you're free, come everyday and give him a check-up once a day, hmm?)

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Hmm?

Bhakti-caru: Śrīla Prabhupāda wants him to come everyday, once a day and check him up.

Kavirāja's Assistant: Accha ye swelling kahan pe hai? (Where's the swelling?)

Bhakti-caru: Yes, you check, you check.

Kavirāja's Assistant: Is there a torch, a torch?

Bhakti-caru: Srila Prabhupada, ektu light jalai? (Śrīla Prabhupāda, may I turn on the light?)

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Bhakti-caru, Prabhupāda says he is lying here, so the Kavirāja can come whenever it's convenient, 'cause he's always here.

Bhakti-caru: Right, that's what I told him.

Kavirāja's Assistant: Isme kam hai. (This one has less.) Aisa hai, wo bhi aye the apke sathe me. (It's like this, that he came to meet me with him.) (referring to Bhakti-caru).

Bhakti-caru: Ami onake okhane nie gechilam Srila Prabhupada. Sastrijike onar okhane nie gechilam. To tar thekei porichoy. (I had taken him along, Śrīla Prabhupāda. I had taken Śastrījī to meet him at his place.)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Oh . . .

Bhakti-caru: . . . that's how they met.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: What was that?

Bhakti-caru: Śrīla Prabhupāda is asking him how did he get to know Śastrījī. So he said that it's I who took him there and . . .

Kavirāja's Assistant: Isme kam hai, pair me thoda sa badha hai. Neend, Mahārājaji, thik swabhik ati hai? (This is less but there's swelling in the legs. Sleep, Mahārāja . . . is he able to get normal . . . sleep?)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Hmm neend ata hai . . . (Yes, sleep comes . . .)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Aa jata hai. Acha urine ka colour kaisa hai? (It does come. What's the color of the urine?)

Bhakti-caru: Clear hi hai, thoda yellowish hai. (It's clear . . . just slightly yellowish.) (to Satadhanya) Could you show him?

Satadhanya: Yeah.

Kavirāja's Assistant: Urine?

Bhakti-caru: Slightly yellow. (to Satadhanya) Is it slightly yellowish, the color?

Satadhanya: Yellowish and clear. Yellow, clear.

Bhakti-caru: Pila to hai. (It is slightly yellow and clear.)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Apka subh naam kya hai? (What is your good name?)

Kavirāja's Assistant: I'm known as Rameścandra Snāṭak.

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Ap kidhar se hain? (Where are you from?)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Main wese Avadh ka hun, yahan Vṛndāvana me lagbhag padraha varsa se hun. (I'm originally from Avadh, and in Vṛndāvana since about fifteen years.)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Accha. Apka family yahi hain? (I see. Is your family here?)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Ji yahin hai. Patni yahin hai, bache abhi ek hua hai. (Yes, they are here, my wife and I have one child.)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Hmm . . . (indistinct) . . . hmm.

Kavirāja's Assistant: Abhi Vaidyajī dubara jab ayenge, ek hamare mashtisk me ek baat uthi hai, ki jo bakri hai . . . Bakri ka doodh halka hota hai. Aur agar usi vanaspatī ka yog use khilaya jaye aur jo uska dudh ayega wo adhik upyogi hoga. Ek jo ki dawa bilkul nahi leta hai usko wo doodh diya jata hai. (When Vaidyajī visits again, there's an idea that comes to my mind, that the goat . . . goat's milk is very light. So, if the goat can be fed vanaspatī (hydrogenated vegetable fat), and after that the milk it gives will be highly beneficial. The patient who cannot take anything, is given that milk.)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Hmm.

Kavirāja's Assistant: Wo adhik upyogi siddha hoga. (That would be a very beneficial remedy.)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Hmm.

Kavirāja's Assistant: Ye unke paramarsh se apas me . . . (Please discuss this idea amongst yourselves.)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Call them.

Bhakti-caru: Ha Śrīla Prabhupāda (Yes, Śrīla Prabhupāda?) To wo jo vanaspati kaun khilayega? (Who is going to feed it vanaspatī?)

Kavirāja's Assistant: The vanaspatī that you use, that vanaspatī has to be fed to the goat.

Bhakti-caru: All right, where's the goat?

Kavirāja's Assistant: Bakri to yahin palni hai. (The goat has to be taken care of here.)

Bhakti-caru: Oh, I see.

Kavirāja's Assistant: Yahin rakhna padega bakri ko. (The goat has to be kept here.)

Bhakti-caru: But . . . all right, let's see what can be done . . . (indistinct)

Bhakti-caru: . . . but there is no problem drinking cow's milk. I had asked you earlier if this condition is being caused by drinking cow's milk.

Kavirāja's Assistant: Well . . .

Bhakti-caru: . . . you had said that the only problem with cow's milk is that it may cause excess mucous, no other problem.

Kavirāja's Assistant: . . . yes, no other problem . . . but the froth in the milk must be removed instead of giving it directly. Again froth the milk and remove the froth. Then, it becomes light.

Bhakti-caru: I see. All right.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: How will he stop the stool?

Bhakti-caru: Aur ye jo tatti band karne ke liye ap kya kar sakte hain? (What can you do to stop the diarrhea?)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Dikhaiye. (Can you show me once?)

Bhakti-caru: Dekihye, main batata hun, rat ko hua tha 40gm, uske bad . . . (Please have a look. I will tell you how it's been happening . . . at night he passed stool, there was forty grams and after that . . .)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Abhi bhi nikal raha he thoda . . . (Even now, it's coming out, little by little . . .)

Bhakti-caru: Abhi bhi thoda nikal raha hai. 9 baje subah . . . (Even now, it's coming out . . . nine in the morning . . .)

Kavirāja's Assistant: . . . ek min. Mahārājaji wo drops hote hain ki clear ho jata hai? (. . . Mahārāja, just one minute . . . is it coming out in drops or is it clear?)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Nahi drops nahi . . . (No, not drops . . .)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Accha direct ho jata hai. Thik hai. (I see, it happens at once, directly? All right.)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Hmm. Aur pehle to . . . (Yes. And earlier . . .)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Accha ho jane ke bad me fir icha lagi rehti hai ki dobara na ho ya aisa koi abhaas. (After passing stool, do you still have the desire to pass more or any such feeling?)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Hmm . . .

Kavirāja's Assistant: Urine ho jane par phir aise lagta hai ki kahin abhi ruka hua hai? Aisa to nahi? (Just as after passing urine, sometimes there's a sensation that it's stopped and more needs to be passed?)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Pehle tha. (That was there earlier . . .)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Ji . . . Ab nahi hai? (Not now anymore?)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: No . . .

Kavirāja's Assistant: All right.

Bhakti-caru: To subah 9 baje hua tha 40gm. Acha uske bad thoda thoda der rahe 20gm, do paintalis paune teen baje hua tha 10gm aur 3 baje . . . Ye jo hai dekhiye, dedh baje, adhai baje aur teen baje, ye dedh ghante ke andar teen dafa ho gaya hai. (So, at nine in the morning, forty grams was passed. After that, at one-thirty, twenty grams. At two forty-five there was 10 grams. And at three o'clock . . . please see this . . . at one-thirty, at two-thirty and three o'clock. It's happened three times within the span of three hours. This is a cause to worry.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: I see.

Bhakti-caru: Dedh baje, adhai baje aur teen baje. (One-thirty, two-thirty and three o'clock.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Suddenly, three times . . . I see. Patla ho raha hai? (Is the stool watery?)

Bhakti-caru: Dekhiye kal jo hua tha wo to thoda sa patla nahi tha, acha hi tha. Balki akhri dafa jo hua hai ye thoda patla hua hai. Nahi to pehle jo hua tha wo acha tatti hua tha, tatti banke nikal gaya. (Yesterday, the stool was not watery, it was normal. But the last one was slightly watery. The earlier ones were good, stool was formed and it came out.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Accha pain uthi kya? (Is there any pain?)

Bhakti-caru: Pain to kal 'kāḍā' dene ke bad, dawai dene ke bad thoda sa hua tha. (Yesterday, after giving the kāḍā (Āyurvedic remedy) . . . after giving the medicine . . . there was a little pain.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Wo 'kāḍā' kaunsa diya tha? (Which kāḍā was given?)

Bhakti-caru: Ye dawai hai. (This is the medicine.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Naam kya hai? (What's the name?)

Bhakti-caru: Ek number aur kvāth hai ek. (This is number one, and there's another one . . . kvāth and mukta-piṣti.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: This is Mukta-piṣti . . . (indistinct) . . . this number two . . . is kvāth . . .

Bhakti-caru: 'Kvāth' jo hai wo to likha nahi hai. Nahi nahi, 'kvāth' likha hai . . . bad me likh ke deke gaya tha mujhe. (The kvāth is not written. No, no, the kvāth is written . . . here it is. He had written it later and given it to me.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: . . . (indistinct)

Bhakti-caru: 'Kvāth' jo hai ye hai dekhiye. Wo kal dikhaya tha aap ko sham ko. (This is the kvāth, please have a look. I had shown it to you last evening.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Yes. (pause) . . . (indistinct)

Kavirāja's Assistant: (reading in indistinct whispers) Right, this is the kvātḥ.

Bhakti-caru: Is this all right? . . . (indistinct) . . . (pause)

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Bhakti-caru, what is he going to give for stopping the stool?

Kavirāja's Assistant: The pain . . .

Bhakti-caru: He's trying to figure out why he's passing stool, from the medicine.

Kavirāja's Assistant: Ye jo pain kis taraf hua tha? (Which side was the pain?)

Bhakti-caru: Srila Prabhupada, kal je peter bethata hoyechilo ota kondike hoyechilo? (Śrīla Prabhupāda, yesterday the pain you felt in your stomach, which side was the pain?)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Ba dike. (On the left.)

Bhakti-caru: Bayan taraf. (On the left side.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Bayan taraf. Uske bad tatti hui? (On the left. Did he pass stool after that? After the pain?)

Bhakti-caru: Usse thoda panch das minute baad peshab karne ke waqt tatti hui. (Yes, after about five ten minutes when he passed urine, he passed stool only.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Thik hai isme to aise kuch nahi hai. (There's nothing in this one.)

Bhakti-caru: Kuch nahi hai? (Nothing?)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Iska hum dekhenge . . . (Let me check this one . . .)

(pause)

Bhakti-caru: This one number two. (pause) Accha ye do number do dafa deni thi, lekin kal maine ek dafa hi diya tha. Sham ko fir dene ko nahi hua, wo so gaye the aur maine bulaya bhi nahi. (This is number two, I was supposed to give it twice but yesterday, I gave it only once. I didn't give the evening dose because he was sleeping, and I didn't wake him up.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Thik hai. Acha disturb mat kijiyega. Agar kisi bhi samay sote hain to us samay disturb mat kijiyega. (All right. Please don't disturb him. Whenever he's sleeping, don't disturb him.)

Bhakti-caru: Disturb hum karte nahi. (No, I don't disturb.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Accha ye acha hai ki hath ka swelling kam hai. Niche niche pairon ka . . . ek to quantity urine ka badhni chahiye. (This is good because the swelling in the hands has reduced. The legs . . . the quantity of urine must increase.)

Bhakti-caru: Urine badha hai. Do baar hua hai. (Urine has increased . . . it's been passed two times.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Usse soojan dhire dhire kamega. Acha icha hoti hai khane ke liye. (Then, the swelling will decrease gradually. Does he have the desire to eat?)

Bhakti-caru: Nahi, bilkul nahi. (No, not at all.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Bilkul nahi icha hoti? Acha ye adrak ka ras, madhu khilaya tha? (Not at all? For the diarrhea, have you given him juice of ginger and honey?)

Bhakti-caru: Thoda sa, khasi ke liye. (A little bit, for the cough.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: To chal raha hai abhi bhi? (Are you still giving that?)

Bhakti-caru: Nahi wo khasi to nahi hai. Unhone bola tha ki agar khasi hua to adrak ke ras aur madhu ke sath wo dawai milake wo chutney jaisa . . . jarurat nahi pada. (No, because he doesn't have a cough now. He had prescribed that for the cough—to mix the ginger and honey together. Like a chutney . . . but there was no need for that.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Accha ye tatti ka hai, adrak ka ras aur madhu. (Actually, this is a remedy for diarrhea—the ginger juice and honey) . . . (indistinct)

Bhakti-caru: Sirf adrak ka ras aur madhu? Koi dawai nahi? (Only ginger juice and honey? No other medicine?)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Aur dawai nahi. Usse kayi baar . . . (No other medicine. With that . . .) (indistinct)

(indistinct background conversation between Bhavānanda and Tamāla Kṛṣṇa)

Bhavānanda: Bhakti-caru, what is he saying? Anything?

Bhakti-caru: Yes.

Bhavānanda: What?

Bhakti-caru: He's saying that for controlling the stool he's going to just give juice of ginger roots and honey mixed together, and just that. He's not going to give any other medicine for that.

Bhavānanda: Gentle.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: That will stop the stool?

Bhakti-caru: He's saying yes. He doesn't want to change this medicine. He says that none of these medicines has any ingredient that might cause stool or might make him pass stool. And . . . To tatti itna jyada kyun kiske karan hua he? (Why is the reason for the excessive diarrhea?)

Kavirāja's Assistant: That is due to the old stool being passed due to the medicine.

Bhakti-caru: Accha. (Alright.) He's saying that passing stool is due to the old stool that was in the stomach. That is coming out. They are not laxatives, as such. Now I remember, he was telling also, that Shastrijī, that Śrīla Prabhupāda's intestine has become shrunk, dried up. Now they are slowly, slowly, they have got to become loose and looser, and this might be one thing, like the intestine is loosening, and that is causing the bowels to move.

Kavirāja's Assistant: Kal kitni baar hua tha? (How many times since yesterday?)

Bhakti-caru: Kal to chaar dafa hua tha. (Yesterday, it happened four times.)

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: So if that is true, then why should he stop the stools?

Bhakti-caru: No, I mean since it's causing inconvenience . . . so that . . . they're saying . . . he's saying that these two agents are natural digestives, both ginger juice and honey.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Natural digestives? So what does that have to do with stopping the stool?

Bhakti-caru: Anyway, since he said, we can just try it. Wo ap to bole woh digestive hai na, to tatti kaise band karega. (You're saying that it's digestive. Then how will that help to stop the stool?)

Kavirāja's Assistant: (indistinct) . . . it won't stop the stools. When the stools are loose, it will help to bind.

Bhakti-caru: Accha. Nahi aap jo bolte hain purana tatti nikal ayega tab to wo to acha hi hoga. To band kyun karte hain. (I see. You're saying that the old stool is coming out, then that should be good. Why stop it?)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Not stop it but it will bind the loose stools.

Bhakti-caru: Accha. (Alright.) Oh, I see. He's not actually bind . . . causing it to stop. He said that it will . . . now, last few times, Śrīla Prabhupāda has passed very light stool and liquidish. So this thing, ginger root and honey, will make it sort of thicker.

Bhavānanda: Less often.

Bhakti-caru: Yes.

Kavirāja's Assistant: Accha tatti hote samay baithta hai? (Does he feel that the stool is blocked?)

Bhakti-caru: Blocked means? Stopped?

Kavirāja's Assistant: Meaning, does it feels like the bowels have not cleared? Like that?

Bhakti-caru: You've already asked him about that . . .

Kavirāja's Assistant: Yes . . .

Bhakti-caru: Srila Prabhupada, vaidyaji jiggasha korchen bahya hoyar somoy kokhono ki bondho hoye jauar moto mone hoy je thik moto hoyni? (Śrīla Prabhupāda, Vaidyaji is asking if—when you're passing stool, does it feel like it has stopped and not cleared properly?)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Aage hoto. (Hmm, it was happening earlier.)

Bhakti-caru: Pehle ho raha tha. (It was happening earlier.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Accha. Ab nahi? (I see. Not now?)

Bhakti-caru: Ekhon to hoyna? (Is it not happening now?)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Now, it is like liquid.

Bhakti-caru: Abhi to patla tatti ho raha hai. (Now, the stools are loose.)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Earlier it was feeling like there was constipation?

Bhakti-caru: Yes.

Kavirāja's Assistant: All right then, I will check the condition tomorrow morning and decide.

Bhakti-caru: The honey and that . . .

Kavirāja's Assistant: The honey and ginger can be given in the morning, there's no harm.

Bhakti-caru: There's no reason to give it tonight?

Bhavānanda: Bhakti-caru, what?

Bhakti-caru: He's asking lastly whether, while passing stool, there's a feeling that the stomach has been cleared, kind of a constipated feeling, in spite of . . . half way. Śrīla Prabhupāda said that it was happening like that before but last few times it was liquidish. It was watery stool, so there is no question of . . .

Kavirāja's Assistant: . . . (indistinct) . . .

Bhakti-caru: Ye sab milake diya. (All the medicines that have been given are mixed and ground together) . . . I will just put this in.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: Bhakti-caru, what's going on?

Bhakti-caru: Huh? He was wondering about one medicine that has some roots and herbs mixed together . . . I've got to boil it . . . boil it for a long time and just give the extract of that. He was wondering whether that medicine, how I have that medicine . . . like there are different items in it.

Tamāla Kṛṣṇa: So?

Bhakti-caru: Vaidyajī already made, mixed it together. So, he was wondering about that medicine, how it is, how do I give it.

Kavirāja's Assistant: Vata ka abhaas hota hai Mahārājajī kuch? (Mahārāja, are you feeling there is any air being passed?)

Śrīla Prabhupāda: Hmm.

Kavirāja's Assistant: All right.

Bhakti-caru: (aside) Is there any smell for the air being passed?

Bhavānanda: Sometimes.

Bhakti-caru: Some . . . Wo kaise hoga? (How will it be done?)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Ye dawa . . . (This medicine . . .) (indistinct)

Bhakti-caru: Accha. To aj to maine dophar ko dawa nahi di. (Okay. Today, I haven't given this afternoon's medicine . . .)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Continue the medicines twice . . .

Bhakti-caru: Dawa dete rahun? (Keep giving?)

Kavirāja's Assistant: One time . . . (indistinct) . . . one time tomorrow morning . . . only honey and ginger juice.

Bhakti-caru: Accha khali pet me? Dusre dawa ke sath milake? (All right, on an empty stomach? Should I mix it with the other medicines?)

Kavirāja's Assistant: Give any medicine, on an empty stomach . . .

Bhakti-caru: No . . . in the morning I'm giving this medicine . . . so, together with this medicine?

Kavirāja's Assistant: Yes, together. With this medicine, ginger juice and honey. The kvāth that's been given . . . stop giving the kvath too.

Bhakti-caru: Stop the kvāth?

Kavirāja's Assistant: Only honey and ginger juice.

Bhakti-caru: All right, fine. No problem in stopping the kvāth?

Kavirāja's Assistant: No problem. Once.

Bhakti-caru: Huh?

Kavirāja's Assistant: Only once.

Bhakti-caru: One time. So, should I give it in the evening?

Kavirāja's Assistant: Again, in the evening.

Bhakti-caru: All right. And . . . this Ārath (Āyurvedic remedy) that's there . . . Ārath . . . that I should continue?

Kavirāja's Assistant: Yes. Also, use miṣrī (rock-candy) more, and less of glucose.

Bhakti-caru: I don't give give glucose. However, with this medicine, I was giving with glucose because this medicine is bitter.

Kavirāja's Assistant: It is a little bitter.

Bhakti-caru:

Kavirāja's Assistant: For that, honey is also beneficial.

Bhakti-caru: All right, honey is good?
