yad yad ācarati śreṣṭhas
tat tad evetaro janaḥ
sa yat pramāṇaṁ kurute
lokas tad anuvartate

TRANSLATION

" 'Whatever actions a great man performs, common people follow. And whatever standards he sets by exemplary acts, all the world pursues.'
