TEXT 192

strī kahe,—jāti laha’, yadi prāṇe nā māribe
rājā kahe,—jāti nile iṅho nāhi jībe


SYNONYMS

strī kahe—the wife replied; jāti laha’—then take his caste; yadi—if; prāṇe nā māribe—you will not kill him; rājā kahe—the King replied; jāti nile—if I take his caste; iṅho nāhi jībe—he will not live (he will commit suicide).


TRANSLATION

As a last alternative, the wife suggested that the Nawab take away Subuddhi Rāya’s caste and turn him into a Muslim, but Hussain Khān replied that if he did this, Subuddhi Rāya would not live.
