ei śabdāmṛta cāri, yāra haya bhāgya bhāri,
sei karṇe ihā kare pāna
ihā yei nāhi śune, se kāṇa janmila kene,
kāṇākaḍi-sama sei kāṇa"


SYNONYMS

ei — these; śabda-amṛta — nectarean sound vibrations; cāri — four; yāra — of whom; haya — there is; bhāgya bhāri — great fortune; sei — such a person; karṇe — by the ears; ihā — these sounds; kare pāna — drinks; ihā — these sounds; yei — anyone who; nāhi śune — does not hear; se — those; kāṇa — ears; janmila — took birth; kene — why; kāṇākaḍi — a hole in a small conchshell; sama — just like; sei kāṇa — those ears.


TRANSLATION

"Only the most fortunate can hear these four nectarean sounds—Kṛṣṇa's words, the tinkling of His ankle bells and bangles, His voice and the vibration of His flute. If one does not hear these sounds, his ears are as useless as small conchshells with holes."
