Indian man (1): Suppose if somebody is absolutely ignorant about . . .
Prabhupāda: So therefore there should be education. Why the śāstras are there? Why guru is there? Tad-vijñānārthaṁ sa gurum evābhigacchet (MU 1.2.12). You must accept guru and learn. Why should you remain ignorant?
Indian man (1): How one should start when he's completely ignorant of all these things?
Prabhupāda: He should go . . . tad-vijñānārthaṁ sa gurum evābhigacchet.
Indian man (1): Tad viddhi praṇipātena . . . (BG 4.34).
Prabhupāda: Paripraśnena sevayā. He should become a disciple of a bona fide guru. Otherwise, how he can learn? If you are uneducated, you should go to school.
Indian man (1): (aside) You want to ask anything?
(pause)
Prabhupāda: Guru ka paas jaane ke baat chorr dijiye, guru aakar ke khud canvass karta, koi aata nahi, kitna fallen hai. (Forget about going to the guru, the guru is coming and canvassing, still nobody comes, how fallen they are.) (laughter) It is very difficult to, to guru, but when guru comes, they also do not accept him. What can be done? They are so fallen. Only fortunate. Ei rūpe brahmāṇḍa bhramite kona bhāgyavān jīva (CC Madhya 19.151).
So to go to guru, to Kṛṣṇa, that requires fortune. Kona bhāgyavān jīva. Some fortunate person. Guru-kṛṣṇa-kṛpāya pāya bhakti-latā-bīja (CC Madhya 19.151). By the mercy of guru and Kṛṣṇa, he gets the seed of this bhakti. Bhaktyā mām abhijānāti (BG 18.55). And when he's a bhakta, then he can understand what is God.
(aside) Get the light on.
Bhaktyā mām abhijānā . . . no, there. That's alright.
Indian man (2): Aap ki aur koi seva mai kar saku, tandurusti ke baare mei, kuch dawai vagehera kuch jaroori? (Is there anything else I can do for you, for your wellness. Maybe some medicine, something necessary?)
Prabhupāda: Yeh tandurusti karke bhi kya hoga? Ek din toh jaane hi padega, aaj nahi toh kal. (What will happen by this wellness of the body? One day we all have to leave, either today or tomorrow.)
Indian man: Woh toh jab aaye, jab hi passport liya hai jaane ka, sabhi logon ne. (All of us have already, we brought our return passports when we first came here, everyone of us.)
Prabhupāda: Uske liye, woh jitna . . . (For that, as much . . .) na tasya . . . (indistinct) . . . means . . . (indistinct) . . . arth kya? Medicine. Haan? Hmm . . . toh medicine dene se hi jo, woh zinda rahega, tandurust rahega, ye koi guarantee nahi hai na. (what is the meaning? Medicine. Yes? Hmm . . . so if a person stays alive or well—only when he is given medicine, that is not a guarantee.)
Indian man: Woh toh nashwan . . . shareer toh naash hone wala hi hai. (That is perishable . . . the body is going to perish anyway.)
Prabhupāda: Nahi. (No.) Unless there is sanction . . . (indistinct) . . . Yadi Bhagwan ka yeh rai hogya, ye jitna medicine kare, ye tandurust rahega nahi, toh medicine se kuch kaam nahi. (If God has decided—that no matter how much medicine that one takes, he will not be well then the medicine is of no use.)
Indian man: Kuch nahi kaam karega. Bhagwan ke bhi kripa honi chahiye. (Nothing will work. God's mercy is also needed.)
Prabhupāda: Ye asal baat hai. Toh jab asal Bhagwan ki kripa se sab nirbhar hai, Unhi ka kripa ke upar nirbhar karo. Mai leta hai thoda bahut medicine, woh bhaskar lavan hai . . . chalta hai. (This is the truth. So when the truth is that everything is dependent on God's mercy, then depend on His mercy. I do take a little medicine, there is bhaskar lavan . . . it's working.)
Indian man: Shareer ki paristhiti ab kaisi lagti hai? (How is your body functioning now?)
Prabhupāda: My liver function theek nahi hai? Bhook theek se . . . (break) jab apko samay mile aa jayiyega. (My liver is not functioning well. Not much appetite . . . (break) . . . please come whenever you get time.)
Indian man: Aap kitne din yahan thaharne wale hain? (How many days will you be staying here?)
Prabhupāda: Aisa program hai August ka, akhir tak. (The plan is to stay until the end of August.)
Indian man: Main aata rahunga . . . (break) (I shall keep coming . . .) (break) (end)
