A person who happens to take birth in the family of a Brahman but is not qualified enough to be called a Brahmin is addressed as the relative of a Brahmin and not as a Brahmin. The son of a High court judge is not virtually a high court judge but there is no harm to address a high court judge's son, as a relative of the Hon. Justice. Therefore, as by birth only one does not become a high court judge, so also one does not become a brahmin simply by birth right but by acquiring the necessary qualifications of a Brahmin. As the high court judgeship is a post for the qualified man so also the post of a Brahmin is attainable by qualification only. The Shastra enjoins that even if such good qualifications are seen in a person born in the family of other than a Brahmin, the qualified man has to be accepted as a Brahmin and similarly if a person born in the family of a Brahmin, is void of Brahminical qualification, must be treated as a non-brahmin or in better terms a relative of a Brahmin! Lord Sri Krishna the Supreme Authority of all religious principles of the Vedas, has personally pointed out this differences and he is about to explain the reason for this in the following slokas. #/div# #/div# please wait#div class="mw-parser-output"##p class="mw-empty-elt"# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="TEXT_35"#TEXT 35#/span##/h4# #div class="verse"# #dl##dd#mainaṁ pārthārhasi trātuṁ#/dd# #dd#brahma-bandhum imaṁ jahi#/dd# #dd#yo 'sāv anāgasaḥ suptān#/dd# #dd#avadhīn niśi bālakān#/dd##/dl# #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="SYNONYMS"#SYNONYMS#/span##/h4# #div class="synonyms"# #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=mā&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#mā #a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=enam&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#enam#/i# — never unto him; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=pārtha&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#pārtha#/i# — O Arjuna; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=arhasi&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#arhasi#/i# — ought to; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=trātum&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#trātum#/i# — give release; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=brahma&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#brahma-#a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=bandhum&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#bandhum#/i# — a relative of a #i#brāhmaṇa#/i#; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=imam&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#imam#/i# — him; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=jahi&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#jahi#/i# — kill; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=yaḥ&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#yaḥ#/i# — he (who has); #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=asau&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#asau#/i# — those; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=anāgasaḥ&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#anāgasaḥ#/i# — faultless; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=suptān&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#suptān#/i# — while sleeping; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=avadhīt&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#avadhīt#/i# — killed; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=niśi&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#niśi#/i# — at night; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=bālakān&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#bālakān#/i# — the boys. #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="TRANSLATION"#TRANSLATION#/span##/h4# #div class="translation"# Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa said: O Arjuna, you should not show mercy by releasing this relative of a brāhmaṇa [brahma-bandhu], for he has killed innocent boys in their sleep. #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="PURPORT"#PURPORT#/span##/h4# #div class="purport"# The word #i#brahma-bandhu#/i# is significant.
