Devotional service of the Lord while existing in the material world means to get into practice of transcendental relation with the Lord and when it is matured, one gets completely freed from all material attachment and becomes competent to go back to home, go back to Godhead. Maharaj Parikshit being specially attached with the Lord from the beginning of his body in the womb of his mother, he was continually under the shelter of the Lord and the so called warning of his death within seven days from the date of curse by the Brahmin's son became a boon to him to prepare himself to go back to home back to Godhead. As he was always protected by the Lord he could have avoided the effect of such curse by the Grace of the Lord but he did not take such undue advantage for nothing. Rather he made the best use of a bad bargain and for seven days continually he heard Srimad Bhagwatam from the right source and thus he got shelter of the Lotus feet of the Lord by that opportunity. #/div# #/div# please wait#div class="mw-parser-output"##p class="mw-empty-elt"# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="TEXT_27"#TEXT 27#/span##/h4# #div class="verse"# #dl##dd#takṣakād ātmano mṛtyuṁ#/dd# #dd#dvija-putropasarjitāt#/dd# #dd#prapatsyata upaśrutya#/dd# #dd#mukta-saṅgaḥ padaṁ hareḥ#/dd##/dl# #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="SYNONYMS"#SYNONYMS#/span##/h4# #div class="synonyms"# #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=takṣakāt&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#takṣakāt#/i# — by the snake-bird; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=ātmanaḥ&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#ātmanaḥ#/i# — of his personal self; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=mṛtyum&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#mṛtyum#/i# — death; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=dvija&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#dvija-#a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=putra&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#putra#/i# — the son of a #i#brāhmaṇa#/i#; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=upasarjitāt&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#upasarjitāt#/i# — being sent by; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=prapatsyate&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#prapatsyate#/i# — having taken shelter of; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=upaśrutya&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#upaśrutya#/i# — after hearing; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=mukta&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#mukta-#a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=saṅgaḥ&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#saṅgaḥ#/i# — freed from all attachment; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=padam&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#padam#/i# — position; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=hareḥ&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#hareḥ#/i# — of the Lord. #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="TRANSLATION"#TRANSLATION#/span##/h4# #div class="translation"# After hearing about his death, which will be caused by the bite of a snake-bird sent by a son of a brāhmaṇa, he will get himself freed from all material attachment and surrender unto the Personality of Godhead, taking shelter of Him. #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="PURPORT"#PURPORT#/span##/h4# #div class="purport"# Material attachment and taking shelter of the lotus feet of the Lord go ill together.
