A sage is not therefore recognised by seeing but he is recognised by hearing. One should approach a Sadhu or great sage not for seeing but for hearing him. If one is not prepared to give an aural reception to the words of a Sadhu there is no change or gaining anything from such Sadhu. Sukdeva Goswami was a Sadhu who could speak on transcendental activities of the Lord. He was not for satisfying the whims of ordinary citizens. He was recognised when He spoke on the subject of Bhagwatam and He never attempted to make show of jugglery like a magician, chemist or physician. Outwardly He appeared to be a stunted dumb mad man but in fact He was the most elevated transcendental personality. #/div# #/div# please wait#div class="mw-parser-output"##p class="mw-empty-elt"# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="TEXT_6"#TEXT 6#/span##/h4# #div class="verse"# #dl##dd#katham ālakṣitaḥ pauraiḥ#/dd# #dd#samprāptaḥ kuru-jāṅgalān#/dd# #dd#unmatta-mūka-jaḍavad#/dd# #dd#vicaran gaja-sāhvaye#/dd##/dl# #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="SYNONYMS"#SYNONYMS#/span##/h4# #div class="synonyms"# #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=katham&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#katham#/i# — how; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=ālakṣitaḥ&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#ālakṣitaḥ#/i# — recognized; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=pauraiḥ&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#pauraiḥ#/i# — by the citizens; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=samprāptaḥ&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#samprāptaḥ#/i# — reaching; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=kuru&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#kuru-#a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=jāṅgalān&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#jāṅgalān#/i# — the Kuru-jāṅgala provinces; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=unmatta&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#unmatta#/i# — mad; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=mūka&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#mūka#/i# — dumb; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=jaḍavat&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#jaḍavat#/i# — stunted; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=vicaran&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#vicaran#/i# — wandering; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=gaja&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#gaja-#a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=sāhvaye&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#sāhvaye#/i# — Hastināpura. #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="TRANSLATION"#TRANSLATION#/span##/h4# #div class="translation"# How was he [Śrīla Śukadeva, the son of Vyāsa] recognized by the citizens when he entered the city of Hastināpura [now Delhi], after wandering in the provinces of Kuru and Jāṅgala, appearing like a madman, dumb and retarded? #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="PURPORT"#PURPORT#/span##/h4# #div class="purport"# The present city of Delhi was formerly known as Hastināpura because it was first established by King Hastī.
