The Lord said, you are talking like a learned man, but you do not know that one who is learned—one who knows what is body and what is soul—does not lament for any stage of the body, neither in the living nor in the dead condition. As it will be explained in later chapters, it will be clear that knowledge means to know matter and spirit and the controller of both. Arjuna argued that religious principles should be given more importance than politics or sociology, but he did not know that knowledge of matter, soul and the Supreme is even more important than religious formularies. And, because he was lacking in that knowledge, he should not have posed himself as a very learned man. As he did not happen to be a very learned man, he was consequently lamenting for something which was unworthy of lamentation. The body is born and is destined to be vanquished today or tomorrow; therefore the body is not as important as the soul. One who knows this is actually learned, and for him there is no cause for lamentation, regardless of the condition of the material body. #/p# #/div# #/div# please wait#div class="mw-parser-output"# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="TEXT_11"#TEXT 11#/span##/h4# #div class="devanagari"# #dl##dd#श्रीभगवानुवाच ।#/dd# #dd#अशोच्यानन्वशोचस्त्वं प्रज्ञावादांश्च भाषसे ।#/dd# #dd#गतासूनगतासूंश्च नानुशोचन्ति पण्डिताः ॥११॥#/dd##/dl# #/div# #div class="verse"# #dl##dd#śrī-bhagavān uvāca#/dd# #dd#aśocyān anvaśocas tvaṁ#/dd# #dd#prajñā-vādāṁś ca bhāṣase#/dd# #dd#gatāsūn agatāsūṁś ca#/dd# #dd#nānuśocanti paṇḍitāḥ#/dd##/dl# #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="SYNONYMS"#SYNONYMS#/span##/h4# #div class="synonyms"# #p##i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=śrī&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#śrī-#a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=bhagavān&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#bhagavān #a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=uvāca&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#uvāca#/i# — the Supreme Personality of Godhead said; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=aśocyān&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#aśocyān#/i# — not worthy of lamentation; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=anvaśocaḥ&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#anvaśocaḥ#/i# — you are lamenting; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=tvam&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#tvam#/i# — you; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=prajñā&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#prajñā-#a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=vādān&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#vādān#/i# — learned talks; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=ca&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#ca#/i# — also; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=bhāṣase&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#bhāṣase#/i# — speaking; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=gata&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#gata#/i# — lost; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=asūn&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#asūn#/i# — life; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=agata&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#agata#/i# — not passed; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=asūn&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#asūn#/i# — life; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=ca&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#ca#/i# — also; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=na&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#na#/i# — never; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=anuśocanti&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#anuśocanti#/i# — lament; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=paṇḍitāḥ&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#paṇḍitāḥ#/i# — the learned. #/p# #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="TRANSLATION"#TRANSLATION#/span##/h4# #div class="translation"# #p#The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: While speaking learned words, you are mourning for what is not worthy of grief.
