June 9th, 1977

From: Tamal Krishna

My dear Giriraj Prabhu,

Please accept my humble obeisances at your feet. I beg to thank you for your letter dated 6th June, 1977.

By the time this letter reaches you, you will have seen a copy of the affidavit which has already been registered and notarized, a copy of which is being carried by Gopal Krsna Prabhu. We also got the will registered in Mathura. I just received a letter from Veni Shanker Sharma dated 5th June, 1977.Mr. Sharma was unable to meet with either the foreign minister or the home minister regarding the permanent residency for the devotees. But he has asked a Sri Balraj Madhok, an ex-M.P. and veteran Janasangha leader who is an old friend of his, to take up the matter with the proper authorities. Mr. Sharma would like us to make copies of any correspondence that we have had with any authorities regarding the permanent residency and send a copy of all of the correspondence to him at 229 Chittaranjan Avenue, Calcutta 6, as well as a copy to Mr. Madhok at J394 New Rajendra Nagar, Shanker Road, New Delhi. Please inform me if there was any such correspondence. I think you may also enquire from Bank of America if either of our savings accounts have checking facilities and if we will lose any of the interest because of this. If so then we do not require checking facilities and you should make the necessary change, especially since there is a large amount in the Mayapur-Vrndavana account.

Enclosed please find the Resolutions which unfortunately I never got signed by Brahmananda Maharaj. Perhaps he is in Bombay when you get this letter and you can get them signed; otherwise you can send them to Nairobi for his signature, or manage his signature in another way. Also enclosed is an amendment to the BBT Trust, which you can kindly hand over to Gopal Krsna Prabhu.

Please send the account opening signature cards for Srila Prabhupada to open an account with Indian Overseas Bank at their new branch office in our temple. When is the bank office opening?

I sent the photograph of Srila Prabhupada in the Rada-Damodar Temple as you have requested with Gopal Krsna. Regarding using a Grundig tape recorder for your work, the difficulty is that the typist also needs a Dictaphone. We do not have any extra Dictaphones in India, so I do not know how you will make arrangements to get one.

Please also inform Gopal Krsna Prabhu of Mr. Balraj Madhok’s New Delhi address as he would be the most likely person to see him when he goes occasionally to New Delhi. Mr. Madhok’s phone number is Delhi 581188.

Srila Prabhupada’s health is actually improving a little bit with the extensive massaging administered by a brahmacari from the Gaudiya Math. He is also taking two cold baths a day which also gives him relief, and now the swelling is substantially reduced and he is beginning to eat a little bit. Prabhupada said before it was hopeless but now he is feeling hope.

I pray that this finds you in the best of health and Krsna consciousness.

Your servant,

Tamal Krsna Gosvami

Secretary to Srila Prabhupada

Sriman Giriraj das Brahmachary
