The living being is in the state of forgetfulness of his relation with God on account of his too much attraction for material sense gratification from the time immemorial. His struggle for existence in the material world is a perpetual affair and it is not possible for him to get out of it by plan making business. If he at all wants to make conquest over this perpetual struggle for existence he must re-establish his eternal relation with God. And one, who wants to adopt such remedial measures, must take shelter of these literatures like the Vedas and the Puranas. Foolish people say that the Puranas have no connection with the Vedas. Actually the Puranas are supplimentary explanations of the Vedas for different types of men. All men are not equal. There are men who are conducted under the mode of goodness, there are others who are under the mode of passion and there are others who are conducted under the modes of ignorance. The Puranas are so divided that any class of men can take advantage of them and gradually regain the lost position and get out of the hard struggle for existence. Srila Sūta Gosvāmī shows the way of chanting the Puranas and the same may be followed by persons who may be preachers of the Vedic literatures and the Puranas. Srimad Bhagwat is the spotless Purana and it is specially meant for them who are desirous to get out of the material entanglement for good. #/div# #/div# please wait#div class="mw-parser-output"##p class="mw-empty-elt"# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="TEXT_4"#TEXT 4#/span##/h4# #div class="verse"# #dl##dd#nārāyaṇaṁ namaskṛtya#/dd# #dd#naraṁ caiva narottamam#/dd# #dd#devīṁ sarasvatīṁ vyāsaṁ#/dd# #dd#tato jayam udīrayet#/dd##/dl# #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="SYNONYMS"#SYNONYMS#/span##/h4# #div class="synonyms"# #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=nārāyaṇam&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#nārāyaṇam#/i# — the Personality of Godhead; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=namaḥ&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#namaḥ-#a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=kṛtya&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#kṛtya#/i# — after offering respectful obeisances; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=naram&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#naram #a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=ca&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#ca #a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=eva&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#eva#/i# — and Nārāyaṇa Ṛṣi; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=nara&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#nara-#a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=uttamam&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#uttamam#/i# — the supermost human being; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=devīm&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#devīm#/i# — the goddess; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=sarasvatīm&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#sarasvatīm#/i# — the mistress of learning; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=vyāsam&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#vyāsam#/i# — Vyāsadeva; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=tataḥ&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#tataḥ#/i# — thereafter; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=jayam&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#jayam#/i# — all that is meant for conquering; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=udīrayet&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#udīrayet#/i# — be announced. #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="TRANSLATION"#TRANSLATION#/span##/h4# #div class="translation"# Before reciting this Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, which is the very means of conquest, one should offer respectful obeisances unto the Personality of Godhead, Nārāyaṇa, unto Nara-nārāyaṇa Ṛṣi, the supermost human being, unto mother Sarasvatī, the goddess of learning, and unto Śrīla Vyāsadeva, the author. #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="PURPORT"#PURPORT#/span##/h4# #div class="purport"# All the Vedic literatures and the #i#Purāṇas#/i# are meant for conquering the darkest region of material existence.
