The preliminary vices are 1. Illicit connection with women, 2. Indulgence of unnecessary animal slaughter, 3. To live a life of intoxication and 4. Endeavouring in the matter of speculative gambling of all descriptions. A Goswami therefore, is freed from all these symptomatic uncleanness before he can dare to sit on the Vysa Asana. Noboby should be allowed to sit on the Vyasa Asana who is not spotless in character with special reference to the above four principles. He shall not only be freed from all such vices but also he must be well versed in all revealed scriptures or the Vedas. The Puranas are also parts of the Vedas. And histories like the Mahabharata or Ramayana are also parts of the Vedas. The Acharya or the Goswami must be well acquainted with all these literary field. To hear and explain them is more important than reading. One can only assimilate the knowledge of the revealed scriptures by hearing and explaining. Hearing is called #i#SHRABAN#/i# and explaining is called #i#KIRTAN#/i#. Therefore these two processes namely Shraban and Kirtan are two principal factors in the progressive spiritual life. One who has properly grasped the transcendental knowledge from the right source by submissive hearing only can properly explain the subject. #/div# #/div# please wait#div class="mw-parser-output"##p class="mw-empty-elt"# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="TEXT_6"#TEXT 6#/span##/h4# #div class="verse"# #dl##dd#ṛṣaya ūcuḥ#/dd# #dd#tvayā khalu purāṇāni#/dd# #dd#setihāsāni cānagha#/dd# #dd#ākhyātāny apy adhītāni#/dd# #dd#dharma-śāstrāṇi yāny uta#/dd##/dl# #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="SYNONYMS"#SYNONYMS#/span##/h4# #div class="synonyms"# #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=ṛṣayaḥ&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#ṛṣayaḥ#/i# — the sages; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=ūcuḥ&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#ūcuḥ#/i# — said; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=tvayā&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#tvayā#/i# — by you; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=khalu&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#khalu#/i# — undoubtedly; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=purāṇāni&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#purāṇāni#/i# — the supplements to the #i#Vedas#/i# with illustrative narrations; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=sa&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#sa-#a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=itihāsāni&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#itihāsāni#/i# — along with the histories; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=ca&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#ca#/i# — and; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=anagha&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#anagha#/i# — freed from all vices; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=ākhyātāni&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#ākhyātāni#/i# — explained; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=api&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#api#/i# — although; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=adhītāni&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#adhītāni#/i# — well read; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=dharma&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#dharma-#a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=śāstrāṇi&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#śāstrāṇi#/i# — scriptures giving right directions to progressive life; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=yāni&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#yāni#/i# — all these; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=uta&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#uta#/i# — said. #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="TRANSLATION"#TRANSLATION#/span##/h4# #div class="translation"# The sages said: Respected Sūta Gosvāmī, you are completely free from all vice.
