The incarnations of the material qualities-Lord Śiva and Lord Brahmā-are under the jurisdiction of the external energy. Lord Viṣṇu, however, is different. In the mantras of the Ṛg Veda it is said: oṁ tad viṣṇoḥ paramaṁ padam (Ṛg Veda-saṁhitā 1.22.20). The words paramaṁ padam indicate that He is transcendental to the material qualities. Because Lord Viṣṇu is not within the jurisdiction of the material qualities, He is always superior to the living entities who are controlled by material energy. This is one of the differences between the Supreme Lord and the living entities. Lord Brahmā is a very powerful living entity, and Lord Śiva is even more powerful. Therefore Lord Śiva is not accepted as a living entity, but at the same time is not considered to be on the level of Lord Viṣṇu. #/div# #/div# please wait#div class="mw-parser-output"# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="TEXT_289"#TEXT 289#/span##/h4# #div class="verse"# #dl##dd#‘viṣṇu’-rūpa hañā kare jagat pālane#/dd# #dd#guṇātīta viṣṇu—sparśa nāhi māyā-sane#/dd##/dl# #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="SYNONYMS"#SYNONYMS#/span##/h4# #div class="synonyms"# #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=viṣṇu&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#viṣṇu-#a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=rūpa&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#rūpa#/i# — Lord Kṛṣṇa in His form as Viṣṇu; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=hañā&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#hañā#/i# — becoming; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=kare&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#kare#/i# — does; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=jagat&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#jagat #a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=pālane&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#pālane#/i# — maintenance of the material world; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=guṇa&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#guṇa-#a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=atīta&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#atīta#/i# — beyond the material qualities, transcendental; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=viṣṇu&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#viṣṇu#/i# — Lord Viṣṇu; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=sparśa&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#sparśa#/i# — touching; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=nāhi&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#nāhi#/i# — there is not; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=māyā&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#māyā-#a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=sane&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#sane#/i# — with #i#māyā#/i#, the material energy. #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="TRANSLATION"#TRANSLATION#/span##/h4# #div class="translation"# “In this way, the Supreme Personality of Godhead in His form of Viṣṇu maintains the entire material world.
