All of these processes are recommended for controlling the senses and for advancement in spiritual realization. This practice involves controlling the air within the body to enable simultaneous passage in opposite directions. The #i#apāna#/i# air goes downward, and the #i#prāṇa#/i# air goes up. The #i#prāṇāyāma yogī#/i# practices breathing the opposite way until the currents are neutralized into #i#pūraka#/i#, equilibrium. Similarly, when the exhaled breathing is offered to inhaled breathing, it is called #i#recaka#/i#. When both air currents are completely stopped, it is called #i#kumbhaka-yoga#/i#. By practice of #i#kumbhaka-yoga#/i#, the #i#yogīs#/i# increase the duration of life by many, many years. A Kṛṣṇa conscious person, however, being always situated in the transcendental loving service of the Lord, automatically becomes the controller of the senses. His senses, being always engaged in the service of Kṛṣṇa, have no chance of becoming otherwise engaged. So at the end of life, he is naturally transferred to the transcendental plane of Lord Kṛṣṇa; consequently he makes no attempt to increase his longevity. He is at once raised to the platform of liberation. A Kṛṣṇa conscious person begins from the transcendental stage, and he is constantly in that consciousness. Therefore, there is no falling down, and ultimately he enters into the abode of the Lord without delay. The practice of reduced eating is automatically done when one eats only Kṛṣṇa #i#prasādam#/i#, or food which is offered first to the Lord. Reducing the eating process is very helpful in the matter of sense control. And without sense control there is no possibility of getting out of the material entanglement. #/dd##/dl# #/div# #div class="verse"# #dl##dd#apāne juhvati prāṇaṁ#/dd# #dd#prāṇe 'pānaṁ tathāpare#/dd# #dd#prāṇāpāna-gatī ruddhvā#/dd# #dd#prāṇāyāma-parāyaṇāḥ#/dd# #dd#apare niyatāhārāḥ#/dd# #dd#prāṇān prāṇeṣu juhvati#/dd##/dl# #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="SYNONYMS"#SYNONYMS#/span##/h4# #div class="synonyms"# #p##i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=apāne&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#apāne#/i# — in the air which acts downward; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=juhvati&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#juhvati#/i# — offer; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=prāṇam&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#prāṇam#/i# — the air which acts outward; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=prāṇe&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#prāṇe#/i# — in the air going outward; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=apānam&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#apānam#/i# — the air going downward; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=tathā&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#tathā#/i# — as also; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=apare&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#apare#/i# — others; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=prāṇa&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#prāṇa#/i# — of the air going outward; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=apāna&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#apāna#/i# — and the air going downward; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=gatī&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#gatī#/i# — the movement; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=ruddhvā&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#ruddhvā#/i# — checking; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=prāṇa&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#prāṇa-#a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=āyāma&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#āyāma#/i# — trance induced by stopping all breathing; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=parāyaṇāḥ&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#parāyaṇāḥ#/i# — so inclined; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=apare&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#apare#/i# — others; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=niyata&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#niyata#/i# — having controlled; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=āhārāḥ&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#āhārāḥ#/i# — eating; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=prāṇān&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#prāṇān#/i# — the outgoing air; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=prāṇeṣu&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#prāṇeṣu#/i# — in the outgoing air; #i##a target="_blank" rel="nofollow noreferrer noopener" class="external text" href="//vanipedia.org/wiki/Special:VaniSearch?s=juhvati&tab=syno_o&ds=1"#juhvati#/i# — sacrifice. #/p# #/div# #h4##span class="mw-headline" id="TRANSLATION"#TRANSLATION#/span##/h4# #div class="translation"# #p#Still others, who are inclined to the process of breath restraint to remain in trance, practice by offering the movement of the outgoing breath into the incoming, and the incoming breath into the outgoing, and thus at last remain in trance, stopping all breathing.
